The Train is a unique dynamic object, which can appear on several section of the Happy Town's railroad. If touched, the player will be linked to the Clockwork Machines, Natural World or Kyoto, depending on the type of the train.
The train consists of a small locomotive with a decorative muzzle with two small horns on top, in kanji & downer textures depicting the LSD's mascot Linen. The train pulls one trailer wagon as well. There are 10 small wheels in total, that can be seen rotating as the train runs. The train is able to produce its own unique sound, but it usually glitches and goes silent, especially during map chunk loads.
The "BEAMS" logo[]
In the instruction booklet, there's a special thanks to BEAMS, a Japanese clothing store. In the original journal on which the game is based, a number of dreams involve the BEAMS store or logo. Outside Directors Company obtained permission from BEAMS to incorporate their logo and slogan "BASIC & EXCITING" into the game. It is used in sexual textures for the Train. Notably, the normal texture of the Train muzzle is the texture shown on the bottom side of the floating cubes in Happy Town.
Train types and events[]
- The slow train is unique to A-type days. It spawns when the player is looking on a certain spot of the railroad, which is located in the southwest corner of Happy Town. This train will link you to the Natural World when touсhed. On very rare occasions, this train sometimes stops near the Opera Singers' pillar. After several seconds it honks once and slowly starts to fly away, gradually ascending into the skies. Such train generates in conditions identical to the Astronaut's Landing Event, when the chart's marker is inside the [4~9, 3~9] range on the graph. To observe this event, the player has to wait for the train to ride around for approximately 2 minutes, after which the state of the train is revealed, though it is highly likely for the train to dissapear by the time it reaches the pillar of the Opera Singers.
- The fast train of Happy Town can be seen only on B-type days. It is located near the Ferris wheel, where it suddenly appears from the tunnel if the player approaches. It can also spawn near the castle, moving towards the tunnel. Upon touching/being hit by the train, the player will either be linked to Kyoto if the train is travelling from the tunnel, or to Clockwork Machines if the train is travelling to the tunnel. The player is also able to activate the "train conductor" scene, where the camera is teleported inside the train and then is automatically linked to Kyoto. By pressing the O button (PSX Controller Standart Confirm Key), when the train is close enough, the event is activated. The event is only possible with the fast train that appears from the tunnel.
Trivia & Glitches[]
- Dodging the train near the tunnel and chasing it all the way to the castle will allow the player to observe a glitch. Pressing the circle button once the train is already close enough to the despawn zone, will trigger the event of becoming the train conductor like normal, but before the automatic link can occur, the train will disappear as it reaches its despawn zone, thus losing the player their ability to move until the dream ends.
