LSD: Dream Emulator is a game that was released exclusively in Japan for the Sony PlayStation and PlayStation Classic, designed by Osamu Sato and published by Asmik Ace Entertainment. It is one of a series of three products based on Lovely Sweet Dream, a dream journal kept and updated over the course of 10 years by Hiroko Nishikawa, a staff member at Asmik Ace Entertainment. The theme song of LSD: Dream Emulator is "Come On And" by Osamu Sato.

Release[]

LSD: Dream Emulator was originally released on the Sony PlayStation on October 22nd of 1998. The game was added to the Japanese PlayStation Store under the "PSOne classics" section on August 11th, 2010 for ¥617.

Rating[]

The game received a D rating from CERO (Computer Entertainment Rating Organization, the Japanese content rating company, equivalent to the ESRB or PEGI), which is roughly equal to being rated M, for its disturbing imagery, themes and general nature.

Reception[]

Due to its unusual content and its lack of availability, LSD: Dream Emulator suffered inattention from players shortly after release. However, in the following later years, the game has received a dedicated cult following. Its Western success may be largely attributed to Let's Players and Youtubers, the likes of which having used the eccentric nature of the game to shock and surprise viewers for content.

Though the initial reception by players was unfavorable, critics such as Kill Screen and Hardcore Gaming 101 praised the game for its uniqueness and unpredictability, with the latter remarking that "there has never been another video game that so effectively conferred the feeling of an actual dream".
