The Gunman (also unofficially known as the Soldier) is a person dressed in a dark grey cloak and helmet who appears near or inside the warehouses in the Violence District only on B-type days. In his hands, he holds a rifle.

The Gunman will ignore the player, even if the player walks into his line of sight. However, if approached, he will turn towards the player and shoot, causing the player to slowly fall over sideways and the screen to fade out. Following this, the dream will either end or the player will be linked to the Clockwork Machines. Directly linking with the Gunman via walking into him will also send the player to the Clockwork Machines.

When the Gunman turns to shoot, pressing the circle button will cause the Gunman to fall on the ground. In this state, the player can link with him to be transported to the Clockwork Machines. It is also possible to avoid the Gunman's attention entirely if the player looks up or moves backwards while approaching him, as the shooting event will not triggered due to the trigger-preventing nature of these actions. This can also be used to link with him without getting shot.

There are three positions in which the Gunman can appear, all of which may be found at the same time:

  • Inside the first left warehouse, where the crime scene is located, near the entrance. He can spawn before the player enters or momentarily afterwards, which immediately leads to the player being shot due to being close enough to activate his trigger. Walking far enough into the warehouse will also cause him to spawn. Linking with him in this warehouse will link the player to the Clockwork Machines.
  • Inside the second to last warehouse, near the fence that divides the warehouse into two parts. The Gunman will be seen aiming at a victim, standing in front of the shutter door, behind the fence. If approached, the Gunman will first shoot the victim, and then the player. Pressing the circle button here will occasionally save the victim's life.
  • Outside the same warehouse with the fence. On B-1 type days a car spawns on the same spot as the Gunman.

The Gunman will respawn if the player leaves and re-enters the Violence District.

Speculation[]

The corpses present within the Violence District may be other victims of the Gunman.
